The Faces of Margraten of 2015
From 2 to 5 May 2015, photographs of 3,300 American soldiers were displayed at their graves and names on the Walls of the Missing. For the first time in the cemetery’s 70-year history, they were given a face. Approximately 25,000 people visited the tribute that year. They brought around 4,000 bouquets with them.
Connecting families
Joseph Di Fazio was 22 years old when he was killed during World War II. The quest for a face of Joseph led to his family reconnecting with family history and, above all, Ben seeing his brother’s headstone for the first time in 70 years. The Di Fazio family also connected with the Weusten family in the Netherlands, who had adopted Joseph’s grave many years ago. It marked the beginning of a long-lasting friendship between two families.
